1. Platform reporting rules per platform, calendar year
Each platform reports a seller's details to HMRC once that seller makes 30 or more sales of goods, or receives about £1,700 (€2,000) or more, on that platform in a calendar year.
2. The £1,000 trading allowance all platforms combined, tax year

Where these figures come from
- GOV.UK: Selling goods or services on a digital platform – platforms won't report you if you make fewer than 30 sales of goods and receive less than €2,000 (about £1,700) in a calendar year. A report does not automatically mean you owe tax.
- GOV.UK: Tax-free allowances on property and trading income – up to £1,000 of gross trading income each tax year (6 April to 5 April) is tax-free; over £1,000 you must register for Self Assessment.
- GOV.UK: Information for online sellers – there is no new tax on selling your own unwanted things. You may need to register if you buy or make goods to sell for profit and make more than £1,000 before expenses in a tax year.
Figures checked October 2026. The government has announced plans to raise the Self Assessment reporting threshold for trading income to £3,000; this isn't in force yet and wouldn't change the £1,000 tax-free allowance.
